A 36 yr old woman who underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery for class III obesity 5 years ago is referred to you for iron deficiency anemia.
She developed anemia a few months ago which was initially thought to be due to menstrual losses, so her gynecologist started a combined estrogen-progesterone pill.
She denies overt gastro-intestinal bleeding, including melena, hematemesis and hematochezia.
Her primary care doctor has performed Fecal occult blood testing (FOBT) which was negative.
