Case 3 question 1

What is the best nutrition. strategy for this patient?
NPO with only intra venous fluids at this time
Incorrect, try again! The time to reinitiate oral feedings depends on the severity of the pancreatitis. Since the patient is not hemo-concentrated and has no signs of organ failure, as well as no areas of necrosis or fluid collections noted on imaging,  his pancreatitis would be characterized as mild and nutrition should not be withheld.
Start him on a low-fat diet today, along with giving  IV fluids and monitor
Good choice! Early oral nutrition is beneficial in acute pancreatitis. In the absence of  ileus or vomiting, oral feeding with a low-fat solid diet can be started within 24 hours of presentation as tolerated
Start clear liquids now and then advance  to solids as tolerated
Try again! The patient should be started on a low fat solid diet. There is no data to support initiating clear liquids first and then advancing, though this has traditionally been the practice.
Start enteral nutrition via a naso-jejunal tube today
Try again! As he has no signs of gastric outlet obstruction or pancreatic necrosis on CT, enteral feeding via naso jejunal tube is not indicated
