Case 10: Introduction

  • 38-year-old man with a PMH of mild Crohn’s disease of the terminal ileum (diagnosed at age 23, currently on mesalamine) presents to the IBD clinic with worsening diarrhea, hematochezia and abdominal pain. ​ His symptoms have been progressively worsening over the past 3 weeks
  • He is having 6-8 bowel movements per day, all loose, some bloody, with accompanying crampy abdominal pain.
  • He is also nauseated and reports a reduced appetite. He  is able to eat three meals per day, but worries that food is making his symptoms worse.
